one of the main features of the exhibition is the map box, the purpose of the box is a center piece to the exhibition. On this box, there will be a modified london underground map, one of the lines will be altered to have an extra track, and on this track you will find station, each station is named after a member of the class.
This line will lead to the edge of the box, the line will then carry on along the floor via red tape. This will guide the visitors around the exhibition to each persons work.
The box is made from 18mm MDF sheets and has the same dimensions as a A0 sheet of paper (1141mm x 841mm) this was to make it easier to print onto.
originally the box was to be located on the edge of the exhibition against the wall, but was advised to make it completely flat topped and placed in the centre of the floor.
The box was built on week 7 by Daryl, Paul and Rich, after a few attempts, the sheets were cut to the right lenghts, and all but the top sheet were screwed together.
The next day, Daryl, Adam, Paul and Rich begun painting the first few coats of white, we took 2 hour shifts and gave it around 4-5 coats until the yellow/browny tinge faded away from the colour of the wood.
In week 9 the top was taken down to a printing shop called "fastsigns" which is just down the road from then university, the modified map was printed onto this and the cost was £30, the finish came out very well. the top was the covered in clingfilm to keep it protected and left round Rich's house, this being because, if it was left at the university, it would get dirt all over it.
